Known as the gateway to Karnataka, Athani is an important commercial centre. The old fort contains ancient monuments. The Siddheshwar Temple and a mosque within the same enclosure symbolise Hindu–Muslim harmony. The Amritalingeshwara Temple, built in the Chalukyan style, is ancient. The Rama Temple was established by Samartha Ramadas. The town also has a Wada associated with Adil Shahi-period rulers and famous Neminatha, Adinatha and Padmavati temples.
