Situated on a hilltop with panoramic views of the serene Malaprabha River below, the revered Saundatti Yellamma Temple, also known as the Renuka Devi Temple, is dedicated to Goddess Yellamma. Some devotees regard her as the divine incarnation of Renuka, the mother of Parashurama. The temple has a rich historical and mythological background and is stated to date to the 16th century; it was constructed in 1514 by Bomappa Nayak. Its architecture combines Chalukyan, Rashtrakuta and Dravidian styles.
