Kakati is a village about 6 km north of Belagavi and is the birthplace of Kittur Rani Chennamma. Kakati Fort is situated on the edge of a hill adjoining the village. It is believed that Chennamma spent her childhood in this hill fort. She later married Mallasarja Desai of Kittur, about 42 km from Kakati.
