Swami Vivekananda stayed in Belagavi from 16 to 27 October 1892. The present Sri Ramakrishna Ashram is a sacred place associated with his visit. He stayed for 9 days at the Ramakrishna Math in the Fort premises and for 3 days in the memorial building at Risaldar Galli. Both places were renovated by the Swami Vivekananda Memorial-Museum. His coat, mirror and walking stick have been preserved and displayed in the room where he stayed.
