The Congress Well is famous as a symbol of Mahatma Gandhi’s active participation in the 39th Congress Session held at Belagavi in December 1924. This was the only All India Congress Session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Indian history, giving Belagavi this distinction. The Gandhi memorial building, known as “Veera Soudha”, has been developed in a peaceful setting and is under the Belagavi City Corporation.
